Remotes of The Future… from the Past

I got an email from art director Larry Williams that read, “When I say ‘Wireless Home,’ What comes to mind and can you do it by next friday?” I drew some sketches and the amazing Robin Finlay went to junk shops buying up old electronics. Robin built these two ‘Star Command - Home’ remote controls based on my sketches and we shot the hell out of them over a bottle of wine.

Now if only they worked!

Spirit Magazine Sandwich Feature

My homies at Spirit magazine were looking for an excuse to have us make an exploded image for them. Along came a Sandwich package. Problem solved. We worked with the people from ‘Wichcraft’ in New York who coached us in making the perfect BLT. And pounds and pounds of fancy deli meats showed up at my studio. Our assistant Bill ate well that night.

Bite – Texas Monthly ‘Road Food’ outtakes

I was shooting some food for Texas Monthly last week and decided to give them some extra options. Poor Lindsay from The Butler Brothers stopped by to pick up some prints and ended up with a giant camera in her face. I pretty much grabbed any poor soul that wandered into my studio and exploited them. Here are the exploits.

Typography With Seeds

We were approached to create a cover for a seed manufacturer’s (no not Monsanto) quarterly publication.  At some point, someone mentioned a type cover, and we love type!  So my brilliant stylist Robin made some options and we ended up with these two final images.  We like type.

Texas Monthly – Weird Science

This feature was shot for Texas Monthly, and designed by art director Andi Beierman.  The images are from a small protfolio Robin Finlay & I created based on the story by Michael Hall challenging the legitimacy of many forensic practices.  The story touches on many people who were wrongly convicted based on shady ’science’ and later exonerated. Heavy stuff!

StadtAnsichten, The Magazine of Autostadt

Designer Ulrike Bohnenstiel at Fuenfwerken Design in Berlin asked to use my work for the cover wrap of StadtAnsichten, the Magazine of Autostadt.  Autostadt is Volkswagen’s museum in Wolfsburg, Germany, featuring a variety of art in addition to automotive exhibits.  The magazine is pretty cool, its mostly filled with artsy stuff… and they said nice things about me!

“sicher!

Or translated by Google;
“sure! Voltron, the most powerful giant robots of the universe, consisting of five Lion-robots, has taken up the fight against the tyrannical King Zarkon. Not only in the nursery, where he frequently encountered in the eighties, he did so with his commitment to the safety of other creatures suffered some injuries. A crutch helps him to stand still themselves safe. That at least raises the front of the Texan photographer Adam Voorhes – a master of still life absurd.”

New Work – Bluetooth, ‘Come Together’

Super rad art director Larry Williams asked me to illustrate the phrase ‘Come Together’ for Bluetooth.  We brainstormed a bit and came up with this idea.  I had a week to pull it off and only one day without rain!  Here it is….

Two Hours with a Watch

A couple friends at a magazine were up a familiar creek.  No paddle.  An image had fallen through and they had a blank page to fill.  So they got this Rolex over to me, but for whatever reason I only had two hours with it.  I hurried and made these images with some objects from the studio storage room.  I like them.

TIME says third best thing ever

Okay, maybe not ever. But TIME did list this magazine cover I worked on with TJ Tucker as the third best magazine cover of 2009.  Wow, thanks!

An Iron Chef Thanksgiving

These are great dishes, all worth a try.  But be careful with Chef Garces’ corn bread. He has a heavy hand with the peppers.  If these images are hard to read you can see the article here,
